RobbJack DM Series 2-flute ball end die/mold end mill, Style A with tapered blend to a miniature ball tip

2-flute ball end die/mold end mills built for 3-D contouring in steels from 30 to 60+ HRc — three tip styles cover everything from shallow detail to deep-cavity reach.

  • 2 flute ball end with 30° helix, AlTiN coated for hardened materials — rated for steels at 40, 50, and 64 HRc hardness
  • Style A: short ball tip blended straight off the shank with an 8° blend angle — maximum stiffness for shallow 3-D detail work
  • Style B: extended-reach tip with a drafted neck (draft angles 1°–3°, blend angles 16°–18°) for deep cavities and part clearance — inch reach lengths from 1/8" to 1-9/16", metric from 1 mm to 45 mm
  • Style C: cutting diameter equals shank diameter (1/4"–1/2" inch, 6–12 mm metric) with no taper for full-strength larger-diameter work
  • Cutting diameters 1/32"–1/2" on the inch line (DM); metric MDM line runs 0.5–12 mm on 6 mm and larger shanks
  • Applications: conventional and ramping 3-D roughing, semi-finishing, and finishing — run dry, cold air, or spray mist; use air or mist coolant on materials greater than 40 HRc
  • Axial depth guidance: 10% of tool diameter at 30–40 HRc, 5% at 40–50 HRc, 4% at 50–60 HRc; roughing/semi-finishing radial step-over 25%–40% of tool diameter
  • Speeds & feeds published per tool from 1/32" (20,000–40,000 RPM) to 1/2" (3,800–6,100 RPM at 30–40 HRc), with roughing and finishing chiploads for each hardness bracket
  • Precision tolerances: cutting diameter ±.0003 (1/32"–3/16"), shank −.0001/−.0002; MDM cutting diameter ±.008 mm (0.5–5 mm)
  • Special diameters and lengths available on a make-to-order basis

About this series

MDM Series Die/Mold Ball End Mills (Metric)

Metric 2-flute extended-length Tuffy ball nose for cavities and cores.

The MDM Series is the metric version of RobbJack's Tuffy-grade, 2-flute extended-length ball-end die/mold end mill, AlTiN-coated for 3-D cutting of cavities and cores in hardened materials. Available in styles A, B, and C with draft/blend angles for part clearance, in cutting diameters from 0.5mm to 12mm.
