Deep slitting cuts drown in their own chips.Flush them out — at the blade.

A slitting saw runs buried in a slot the same width as the blade. Flood coolant sprays the outside of the cut and never reaches the bottom of the kerf — so chips pack, get recut, weld to the teeth, and snap thin saws. The NAB-TC arbor delivers coolant through the arbor to both faces of the saw, flushing the kerf where the cutting actually happens.

Why good saws die in deep slots

Slitting is the one milling operation where the tool works completely enclosed by the part. Three things kill saws in that slot — and all three trace back to coolant that never reaches the cut.

Chips pack the kerf

The slot is the same width as the blade, so chips have nowhere to go. Packed chips get recut, load the gullets, and push the saw off line — wandering cuts and blown tolerances.

Heat builds where coolant can't reach

Outside flood coolant is stripped off at the mouth of the slot. At the bottom of the kerf the saw runs dry, chips weld to the teeth, and built-up edge tears the finish.

Thin saws snap without warning

A recut chip jammed between a thin carbide saw and the slot wall is how saws break mid-cut. Every jammed chip is a shock load a .010" blade wasn't built to absorb.

The fix

Coolant grooves feed both faces of the saw

Run through-spindle coolant into the NAB-TC arbor and it exits through machined coolant grooves along the thru-coolant flanges — washing both sides of the blade and carrying chips out of the kerf continuously. The same precision-ground arbor grips the saw with 15X the force of a typical arbor, so the blade drives through the cut instead of slipping on it. Cooler blade, clean kerf, and the confidence to push speeds and feeds.

Step up to solid carbide thru-coolant flanges

Every arbor ships with steel thru-coolant flanges. For production slitting we recommend the CF solid carbide flange upgrade— the clamping faces that actually hold your saw flat. Steel flanges wear, pick up burrs, and scratch the saw over repeated setups; carbide flanges don't wear, burr, or scratch, so the clamping faces stay flat and true and the setup stays repeatable run after run — the same reason our gang-slitting stacks are built on carbide flanges and spacers.

Cutting dry? The standard NAB arbor line is the same ultra precision, 15X-grip arbor without the coolant path — the right pick for dry and minimum-lubricant slitting.

Complete the setup

The arbor is half the system. The saw is the other half.
